medicine, to enhance sports performance. So Ken moved to Hawaii and began studying Chinese medicine under the tutelage of Dr. Chang Yi-Hsiang at Tai Hsuan College of Oriental Medicine. He later transferred to and graduated from Santa Barbara College of Oriental Medicine in California with a Master’s Degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine.
Ken’s first acupuncture clinic was in Kailua, Oahu, Hawaii. In 2006, Ken and his wife, Ashlee moved to Austin, Texas and he began working with Sue Livingston at Acupuncture Associates Chinese Medical Clinic in Round Rock. In 2008, Ken opened up Georgetown Acupuncture and Herbs in Georgetown, Texas. In 2013 Ken and his family decided to move back to the central coast and opened up his clinic, mr. needles based out of Ojai, California.
The style that Ken practices utilizes a combination of therapies to allow him to successfully treat a wide range of health issues. Although trained by Chinese doctors, Ken utilizes various Japanese therapies and uses Kampo, Japanese herbal medicine. Ken is one of the few practitioners in the area that practices Kampo. During his visit to Japan in 2007, Ken visited several Japanese Kampo pharmacies to learn more about their herbal system.
While working on his Master’s degree, Ken also studied massage at Santa Barbara Bodyworks, and was a licensed massage therapist in California. Today, Ken’s acupuncture treatments utilize the knowledge passed down to him by Chinese masters, his Japanese heritage and study of herbal medicine, enhanced with hot stone therapy, cupping, and Japanese meridian therapy to personalize treatments to meet individual needs.
Ken is married to his beautiful wife, Ashlee and they have two children, Zooey and Kai. They reside in sunny Ojai along with their faithful cat Xochitl, Aussie Lulu, several fish and a band of Chickens.
